Abstract

Quran recitation is a spiritual activity that has significant physiological and psychological impacts. This study aims to examine the relationship between naghom (maqamat), tajweed, and types of verses on physiological responses, especially heart rate variability (HRV), and inner peace through a literature review approach. The method used is a systematic literature review of various international journals discussing Quran recitation, neurophysiology, and autonomic nervous system regulation. The results of the study indicate that Quran recitation affects the autonomic nervous system through auditory processing mechanisms, activation of the auditory cortex, cognitive interpretation in the prefrontal cortex, and the involvement of the limbic system in emotional processing. In addition, recitation also contributes to respiratory modulation and sympathetic-parasympathetic balance. Variations in naghom with tone structures such as qarar, jawab, jawabuljawab, and nuzul play a role in the dynamics of emotions and physiological responses. Meanwhile, tajweed contributes through structured rhythm regulation, articulation, and respiratory control.
