Abstract

The many typologies of Islamic thought are nothing other than a depiction of how rich the intellectual responses of Islamic religion are in responding to and responding to various cultures of modernity, namely cultures that strongly emphasize the role of science and technology. What is clear is that these various typologies of thought will not subside or recede, but will continue to develop without stopping following the changing times. This culture of modernity not only changes the existence of the world of the physical material environment, but also changes the mentality, way of thinking and way of life at the same time. The paper was presented at the Tarjih Work Meeting, The Development of Islamic Thought between Purification and Dynamization, which was held by PSIK UMJ and Majlis Tarjih PWM DKI Jakarta, Saturday, June 15, 1996 at the UMJ Campus in Jakarta.
