The reform of Islamic education in the Malay lands, Sumatra to the Malay peninsula (Malaysia), Brunei and Bugis, cannot be separated from the role of the Thawalib Sumatran educational institution, its role in reforming Islamic education from the halaqah (surau) system to the class (classical) system brought significant changes in the development of education and human resource development at that time. Surau Jembatan Besi, Surau Parabek, Surau Padang Japang, Surau Sungayang and Surau Maninjau are five schools that are fostered and managed by young people.
