Afifi is a researcher in the Darulfunun Institute for Development, Research, and Initiatives (IDRIS) and also a PhD researcher at the Graduate School of Business, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), specializing in strategic management, technology-driven resources, industrial maturity, Islamic economics, and sustainable development with a focus on waqf-based business models.
Abdullah's work contributes to the discourse on modernizing Islamic economic instruments, particularly waqf, to make them more effective in today's economic landscape. By proposing models like the WBM, he offers frameworks that aim to reduce reliance on external aid and create self-sustaining institutions, thereby addressing global socio-economic challenges through sustainable innovation.
His research focuses on revitalizing the institution of waqf through the development of a Waqf Business Model (WBM) aimed at integrating Islamic social finance with modern enterprise systems. He has published in areas related to technology management, industrial maturity, sustainability, shariah-compliant institutions, and Islamic economic philosophy. His work aligns with SDG-driven models for poverty alleviation, social justice, and sustainable growth in Muslim-majority economies.
He actively contributes to academic discourse on Islamic social finance through publications, conferences, and collaborative research. Abdullah is also an advocate for strengthening the integration of Islamic ethical values in economic policy, governance, and business practice.
